Geckos Defeat Top Dogs in a Thriller

   Last October 4, 2013, Thony’s Geckos nicked a 38-36 victory against the Top Dog Commandos in the finals of the Good Shepherd Cathedral School (GSCS) intramurals: High school Basketball Competition.
The game was heavily attended for many came to witness the last game of the GSCS intramurals 2013 and they weren’t disappointed, for it was a match between two talented teams of the High school Department.
The Top Dogs mad it to the finals with ease, first blowing out the Indigo Warriors of 3rd year- Kindness. Then facing the Lightning Gladiators of Grade 7- Generosity in the semifinals before advancing to the championship.

   The Geckos on the on the other hand had to survive a close call against the Soaring Ravens of 4th year- Gratitude before making it to the semifinals where they passed by the Hermes Knights of Grade 8- Obedience easily.

   The game began with the Top Dogs getting the first point but the Geckos quickly took back that point and scored their own basket. As the first half progressed, both teams ended up in a deadlock – they were both stuck at 15-all.

   In the beginning of the 2nd half, the Geckos took an early lead of 24-19, but the Top Dogs weren’t ready to throw in the towels yet for with 7 minutes remaining, they managed to turn the tables. The score shifted to 24-32 in favor of the Top Dogs. The Geckos quickly eliminated that lead and changed the score to 32-all with 2 minutes remaining.          


   During the last 2 minutes of the game both teams traded buckets until it was 36-all and with 5.6 seconds left, the duo of Kio Adlawan and Ian Pimentel performing a great alley-oop earned the Geckos a basket moving the score to 38-36 in favor of the Geckos. Vince Flores attempted to a buzzer-beater but failed leaving Thony’s Geckos to take home the championship title in the High school Division Basketball Competition.
